I've known many Cubans, and the portrait that emerges from these shows makes sense to me. Anyone interested in Cuba should read its literature. A remarkable number of great books and authors appeared (or disappeared) under Fidel's watch: Alejio Carpentier, Lezama Lima, Guillermo Cabrere-Infante, Sarduy, et al. Also worth looking up, Viva La Tropicana, by Leonard Michaels, where Fidel and his issue play starring roles. Many thanks.
