It’s not even like it snowed and then the snow got gross. Or that it was cold, here in Boston, for more than a day. But someone who rides the Red Line is in possession of a thick Sharpie and a bad mood.
How about where you are? Has it been nasty enough this year to feel the end-of-January malaise?

It is frigid here in southern Utah. I’m ready for some warm February weather!
Yikes!!! We’re having a nasty winter in Seattle. Everyone I talk to is depressed. We’re anxiously waiting for El Nino to kick in.
Last winter here in Houston I celebrated my birthday on January 30th by taking a walk in the park (it was 72 degrees) and riding on the kiddy train. (Yep!) This year it’s rainy and in the forties this week, but I still have hopes of watching the kids feed the ducks in Hermann Park on my birthday. HOWEVER, we get HURRICANES and FLOODS in the summertime… so I guess it all balances out. P.S. I moved from Enfield, CT, in 1977 and have never looked back.
Out here in central Mass we should have nothing to complain about. Today the temperature and the wind combine to let us know we are in fact in winter and have a way to go before Spring. Still no complaints. I wonder however how the plants in my garden will take this. With no snow cover, and the warmer weather and rains the roots have continued to thrive and grow. The mosses are having a ball. Now the party is over.
It’s not the heat, it’s the stupidity.
Our children are going to wonder why we waited so long to get started on addressing global warming. How many of our grand kids will EVER see a white Christmas?
Here is Moscow it was -40 last January, this January +40. People here are rather upset about it, it snowed only 3 times, and melted each. Today the snow is melting again. I can say one thing for the snow, it covers up the dirty roads, and makes just about anything more beautiful, even the “Khrushchev Homes” the 5 story, tile, stucco, and lego biuldings that liter the Russian landscape.
As for me, I like it. I don’t like it cold. If this is global warming, I’m voting Republican!! (just kidding!!)
The “experts” that I have heard are very reluctant to say that this winter weather is part of global warming, not yet. It could be just one of those winters that come along not very often ( although I really can’t remember one like this- snowless yes, but not so warm). But if those who were unaware or skeptical or in denial are now getting scared ( or beginning to believe) that we have climate change happening, this unusual winter weather is a good thing.
negatory, good buddies. The unexpected warmth in New England’s November and December kept me outside enough to avoid the typical solstice-induced downers, and the cold snap (finally!) has me tied up in hopes of getting some snow in before spring.
Though passing my still-unused XC skis in the garage each morning brings its own sort of malaise…
