From Our Story Meeting, Nov 28

First of all, my pumpkin pie was a success, mitigated only by the extra fifteen minutes we waited after dinner for it to actually cook solid enough to eat. Ran into Robin on my way in the door this morning, Robin bearing her Thanksgiving suitcase, having come straight from the airport. David reports one of those rare but wonderful “tomorrow’s Sunday — no, wait, it’s Saturday!” moments; all either genuinely feel or convincingly feign satisfaction at returning to the office.

What’s on our minds

The BBC reports that a Bruce Lee statue was unveiled in Mostar. (via Boing Boing) Not sure there’s an Open Source hour in that, regardless of how cool it is, but it’s leading us to think about peacekeeping, what works, what doesn’t, and what we’re learning ten years after the Dayton Accords. For more here, read Eric Margolis, Attention All America Haters! Don’t Forget Bosnia and Kosovo.

We all read Nicholas Kristof’s conversation with the author of Sleepless in Sudan; Katherine’s looking into a show on Darfur. Also, see the photographs from Sudan that wanderingzito has been posting to Flickr.

David is chasing down an hour on Presidential powers in wartime, working from David Cole’s What Bush Wants to Hear, a review of John Yoo’s The Powers of War and Peace: The Constitution and Foreign Affairs after 9/11.

And I’m working on the Google’s library project. More there soon.

Welcome back to your lives.

Regarding the Bruce Lee statue: reported by The World (I believe they are housed in the same building as the Open Source studios, no?) back in September of 2004 (!) when a resident proposed the statue, and then in again on November 21, 2005 a full 5 days before its unveiling. The Statue in Mostar was erected Saturday, November 26.

Strive to be AHEAD of the curve, dear friends.

    Keep up the good work.
