Hi folks. Here’s a roundup for the last two weeks of January. Brendan will post the page for February shortly. As a whole, show suggestions were very good this month. If you’re still looking for more of a guide as to what we’re looking for, check out this fine essay Katherine wrote detailing our needs and interests.
arthureisele: on your critique of our Mozart show…we absolutely want our next Mozart shows (and other classical music shows) to be the opposite of your criticism. Can you help us do it? Please make some more suggestions as to angles and guests. We all like Amadeus, but we would like to focus on Mozart’s music as opposed to the fictionalization of his life. So what other ways can we get at his life and work?
benny594: we did a pensions show in early January, as well as this feature on IBMers bemoaning their own frozen pensions. Check it out!
ALYB and others who seconded his recommendation: Mary has promised to get us some copies of Confessions of an Economic Hitman. So we’re looking into it.
praktike: we love the Marc Lynch suggestion. We think he’d be a good show. We’ve put in a number of requests to his publisher now, and we’re just waiting to hear back about when he can do it. So look for a show post about Arab media and how the Arab world is talking to itself soon!
desertrose: yeah, the Osama Bin Laden book club is rivaling Oprah’s right now. But we’re interested to check out William Blum, so we’re picking up a copy of his book.
Potter: sounds interesting. We’ll look into it.
Nikos: we’re curious about the Geraldine Brooks book you mentioned, so we will take a look at it.
nonbeliever: We’ve been talking about doing a show with Dan Dennet. He was on our dangerous ideas show briefly and we’re trying to cook up something else with him…maybe on his new book. It’s still in the works.
LittleCamper: you propose an interesting high concept show. It’s pretty intriguing…we’re bouncing it around the office. Not sure how to turn it into an hour yet. Ideas for guests or ways in?
richards1052: we did a show of the sort you’re proposing during the Gaza pull-out. Which is not to say we wouldn’t ever go back to it. (If you listen to the show, you’ll notice we had some phone troubles…)
sidewalker: The question of Chinese/Japanese animosity is pretty old. The possibility of changes in that relationship sound interesting, but the idea still feels
amorphous. Brendan will look into it, but needs more of a peg and some guests.
whirlycott: your post is the definition of a good suggestion. Short, concise, and with a list of places to start. David will look into it.
metolius8: as we say around here, BTDT. Check it out.
digitalcommuter and others: we’re interested in the cartoon story, but we’re not sure how to broaden the conversation in a way that wouldn’t repeat our
previous shows on Muslims in Europe. Brendan may look into it for a web feature. One idea that you’re forcing us to kick around, though (your suggestion and the Hamas Elections) is the relationship between the EU and Palestine. So look for a future show on that.
pbgcrepe: we like this idea. We kind of started to get into it on the Liberia show, but we may try to do another post-conflict nation building show in the future.

How about a show focusing on ‘ Peace ‘ and ‘ Diplomacy ‘ ? If all the resources used for war could be used for promoting and inspiring ‘ Peace, ‘ how would it be used ? In wars, there are strategies and tactics, what would the stratigies and tactics be for ‘ Peace, ‘ ?
