However, here&#039;s one I found on my own... a story I remember reading a few months before moving to Boston in 1999: His travel piece about the city, written that January: http://tinyurl.com/l5vfn 
It may not be his best work, but it has its points, including this description of Boston: 
&quot;Compact and convenient, a mosaic of distinctive neighborhoods, it is a baby London.&quot;</description>

		<description>Thank you for this space devoted to R.W. Apple. I was saddened to hear of his passing. A NYTimes reader for many years, he was a favorite on any subject, always good. If I saw his byline, it was a must read. The last of his writing that impressed me were his travel pieces on the English countryside and not long before that on his travels in India, the southwest coast.  Peppercorns!
