Mary's Notes, April 20, 2007

I couldn’t resist the temptation to transcribe the plug Siva Vaidhyanathan gave us on the Re-Imaging Show last night:

This show, for instance, and the blog attached to it, is one of the few places in America where we get to think in public.

Siva Vaidhyanathan on Re-Imaging Violence, Open Source, April 19, 2007.

ROS Works in Progress:

Katherine is working on an AIDS transmission show and she’s still finding colonels and generals to come on and do a self-critique about the leadership in the Iraq War.

Robin is looking into a show about animal science and one about foreclosures and predatory lending in the wake of the housing bubble.

David is reading David Weinberger’s new book, Everything is Miscellaneous. We’d love to make a show out of it next week.

Chris has been reading Arnold Rampersad’s new biography of Ralph Ellison and thinking about a show on what happened to the Ellison vision of blackness in America.

This has been our intern Julia‘s last week at Open Source. Next, she’s determined to cobble together a living out of freelance journalism jobs. We’ll miss her uncompromising critical ear in story meetings, her snappy features, and her gale-force laugh.

Tune your theremins for Monday. Good vibrations to all of you out there.
