We recorded tonight’s show with David Weinberger early today because Chris is moderating a Society and Technology Forum in Providence later this afternoon.

It’s a good thing, too. Chris inadvertently leaned Weinberger’s book on the mute button in the studio, causing his voice to suddenly sound like he was broadcasting from a cave in Tora Bora. Mike, one of our superb engineers at WGBH, restored his mellifluous tone, but a segment of the show had to be re-recorded and then reinserted into the broadcast. It’s incredible that these snafus never happen during live shows.

We’ve emailed Orville Schell asking for a transcript of David Halberstam’s lecture at the Berkeley School of Journalism. Orville read from portions of it during the show last night. We’ll post them when we get them.

Chris is booking a show on Ralph Ellison‘s Vision of Blackness for Tuesday with Ellison biographer Arnold Rampersad and others TBA. Sam and Chelsea are on the lookout for Ellison sound. Animal Science is booked for Monday.
