Mary's Notes, July 13, 2007

Greetings Open Sourcerers. I ventured into Cambridge this morning to meet wtih Chris and our good pal and colleague Jake Shapiro of PRX fame. Nick Allen, our erstwhile far flung Oregonian intern has landed a summer gig with PRX and has agreed to help out on our site as well. At the moment he’s working on a way to archive all our past shows by date.

Chris is on his way to Jerusalem via Greece to do some traveling and conferencing. He and Chelsea had hoped to record a conversation with Harold Bloom on the occasion of his 77th birthday, but the Bloomster came down with an illness and postponed the interview.

Upon hearing the news of Open Source’s summer hiatus, ROS member Sutter suggested what he called “a very Emersonaian idea for this already Emersonian affair: an Emerson discussion group, to read and think through the first and second series of essays.”

Mynocturama has written the kickoff post which will be up shortly.

So have at it. Chris is bringing his computer to Europe with him and perhaps can dip into the discussion on his travels.

Thanks Mary. I shared the very visceral response many others did to the hiatus of the show, only to have that pounded into perspective by the sad loss of Chris’ wife. Thus, I just experienced great pleasure to see your post and the launch of the Emerson discussion.

Somehow this feels like tangible evidence that your words about the future were not hollow. On the impetus of a community member, and with the endorsement and critical support of the staff, the Open Source community can/will live on, even as it evolves into something new. The prospect that Chris himself may join us as he travels is also quite encouraging. I am looking forward to joining Potter, Alison, mynocturama, Sutter, other regulars and, hopefully, many newcomers in creating an Open Source discussion on Emerson.

My little girl was going to be one, and my husband was turning the ‘big 3-0′ soon, so I wanted to have an extra special birthday party invitations for both occasions. I spent a long time searching the internet until if found these great sites for Children Birthday Invitations, Adult Surprise Birthday Party Invitations and Personalized Birthday Invitations for Children and Adults. These sites have cute and unique birthday party invitations, and you can use my own birthday wordings with lots of sample birthday party sayings for me to use. I ordered from Cards Shoppe, and the birthday invitations cards were beautiful. Everyone loved them!
