We like to think we’re universally, cosmically young at Open Source. It’s very rare that any of our younger staff or interns roll their eyes in the story meetings, but we do note the rare occurrences when it happens. To wit: this week Sam really hated the Ralph Nader show. He’s taken his thoughts to the site, and Chelsea, Chris, and Garrett have weighed in too. I think the generation gap on this one breaks down roughly along the lines of parents and non-parents. Those of us with kids did think Ralph’s parenting advice was interesting, though a bit quaint. Ralph, for the record, has no children. Chris has known Ralph Nader for years and liked the show precisely because Ralph talked about everything but politics. But judge for yourself.
Speaking of the younger generation, the wonderfully bright, eager and all around delightful Colin Baker has returned to Open Source for the summer after a semester in Paris. Colin was responsible for the biggest spike in web traffic ever at OS with his foray into North Korean missile sites.
For the record, the OS fundraiser is still going strong. Our new total is 160,044.

Dear Mary- Someone ought to post a big WOW! for that total.
I think Chris succeeded in presenting another side of Ralph Nader. It was for me an exercise in letting go of what we had been lead to believe was the subject of the show. This went on for the better part of four days with encouragement until it was announced there was a change. By then the adrenaline was flowing.
Nothing cured me more than to read the account of Nader waiting in line to have his copy of “An Inconvenient Truth” signed by Al Gore. Then I thought Nader deserves points for the gesture as well. On to Northern Ireland.
