There must be some good that comes from homophily besides the obvious downside. It's certainly very comforting and fortifying to find like-minded folks out there everywhere- community. And that can help bring change. But too much of it does also breed a kind of clueless-ness or lack of understanding. People who only entertain opinions that are not challenging might find themselves wondering why things happen the way they do- or worse may find it easier to fall into blaming and hating. In the physical word it's like living in a ghetto or behind walls or fences.

WIth GVO at one end of the spectrum and the NY Times at the other and, God forbid, sources like Drudge assaulting us from the periphery, I wonder where a resource like Oh My News fits into the mix. Chris introduced me to this site and I have never quite figured out what to make of its authority.

Yes to the above comment.

I finally got to listen with less of a tired and drained mind. The"parachute" word kept coming up which will always remind me of Chris's "Parachute Radio" experiment post WBUR Connection. As far as I am concerned it was enormously successful. It was Global Voices before Global Voices, but the (hot) radio version of it. Man seeking with microphone in hand, open phone lines, a few good guests to provoke thought, and a listening audience local and back home (USA) for a few hours at a time. It was an eye opener ( ear opener, mind opener barrier breaker). I wanted more of this "reality radio". The discussion was also (it seemed) bottom up, anything that was happening that interested the locals. And it interested me too.

It was a pleasure to listen to Ethan Zuckerman and Solana Larson ( aside: she has a lovely voice.) Thank you Chris.

Thought-provoking. Will have to blog it, even though pinging isn't allowed.
Had to listen in chunks because I was getting too stimulated. Ended up looking at both @EthanZ and @WhiteAfrican on Twitter.
One large thing, briefly stated: it's one of the first thoughtful discussions on journalism I've heard in quite a while. And I did feel energized, edgy, psyched. Sounded like the most culturally aware (almost anthropological) discussion in a U.S. podcast, to me.
Although... While I liked the podcast, my critical thinking chip wasn't inactive.

Still. Nice show.
