"The War" Was well done I think I watched the whole thing. I would not say it was any better than other well done stories about WW2, of which there are many. It's just another piece of the picture,or should I say gigantic mural. No one can tell the whole story. I salute Burns for not trying to. I also found it no less gory than things you can watch on the History channel.

I should have said: My mother (who is almost 94, who rolled bandages for the wounded in that war) did not want to watch it- but she did. And we talked about it-actually we did not talk about it we made gasping sounds....

I am not a boomer. I am a war baby.

I have not listened yet- will take it along with me this holiday.... but thank you.

Oh yes I believe that showing war's horrors may not have any effect.

At the end of each episode of this monumental, astonishing, series, I could not come to grips with the horrors I had just seen. My mother who lived through it on the home front, did not want to face it. I could not turn away. I found myself riveted, planted in front of each episode horrified even more as they came. The last in the series was the most horrible of all.

I left that experience feeling that everyone should see it and that it surely could be some kind of cure to have this close look at how horrible war is. Listening to a discussion on the radio after it aired, a caller had an entirely different reaction-to him it proved that we have to be ever-vigilant and strong, and on our guard....
